First tastes of Paris

We arrived this morning and our very first thing after we dropped off our bags was to have a French breakfast of croissant, café and fresh pressed orange juice. Sooo good.

Then we stopped at a patisserie for macarons. The best I’ve ever had. The melt in your mouth goodness, a perfect blend of sweet and a little tart.

Our first official Paris sight was visiting Sainte Chapelle, built by Louis IX (aka St. Louis) as a reliquary for the crown of thorns. More than 1,000 bible stories are illustrated in the stained glass. Of course the designs also worked in the royal fleur de lis.

Does anyone know a bible story in which the answer is Mr. Green with a baguette in the throne room?

We came back to our Airbnb where I napped while Nezzie bought some groceries.

Feeling refreshed, we walked by the Louvre on our way to a big Christmas festival at Jardin des Tuileries.

The festival had impressive rides and vendors. It was very well attended by locals and tourists alike.

For dinner, I found a place called Milagro featured on parisbymouth.com. I chose it for the description of the food and the service as well as its proximity to La Tour Eiffel.

The owner and chef, Justin, has dual American and French citizenship. He was so friendly! We also enjoyed loving up his dog Tofu. The food was incredible. I had duck and Nezzie had fish.

We each got dessert, including chocolate ganache and pumpkin mousse with sage ice cream, apple slices and strudel. Justin said he was inspired by thanksgiving when he created this dessert.

For future visitors to Paris, I highly recommend this place. Justin also owns the restaurant Zia, though I don’t think we will make it there this trip.

After dinner, we took a leisurely night time stroll.

We ended up at the Iron Lady herself, La Tour Eiffel. She was her awesome, beautiful self. As someone afraid of heights, I’m proud to say I went halfway up and even walked around the outside.

By the end of our visit, we had logged almost 20,00 steps today and were all dragging. Looking forward to a good night’s sleep and another exciting day in this global city.
